It seems home consoles are all the rage recently, considering how many different companies have been releasing their own brand of home consoles jam-packed with their classic titles. And we really can’t blame them, considering how the ongoing pandemic has taken a toll on many businesses of different industries. Luckily, the video game industry has been relatively unharmed, and it’d make sense for developers to take advantage of this by releasing products that consumers can enjoy at home, without breaking the bank, or without requiring a dedicated game room to accommodate massive arcade cabinets.
The Capcom Home Arcade, Atari Mini Pong Jr., and the Dragon’s Lair Miniature cabinet are just a few examples of the most recent home consoles that have been released this year. However, AtGames is also dipping its toes in the proverbial pool with their upcoming “Legends Core” console, which will offer up to a hundred different games of the ‘80s and ‘90s, including games by Atari, Data East, Jaleco, Taito, and many more.
The Legends Core is a streaming console, which means that, aside from the 100 titles that come included with it, it also offers services to further expand the repertoire of games that can be played on it. One of these services include a 3-month subscription to Cloud BYOG, which allows you to stream your favorite games from a wide variety of digital platforms straight from AtGames’ servers. And as if that wasn’t enough, the console will also be able to connect to ArcadeNet, an online library of downloadable games in which you can find myriad titles for you to enjoy.
With that being said, the Legends Core will apparently be the best way to pass the time by playing some of your favorite retro arcade games, as well as some of their more modern counterparts by streaming them directly from AtGames’ servers.
To provide the gameplay, however, the console will have state-of-the-art hardware, including HD support via HDMI cable, as well as USB ports to connect any type of compatible gamepad. While you really won’t need all the buttons of a modern controller to play, say, Pac-Man, you’ll definitely want them if you’re streaming modern games. And the best part is that the console is compatible with any type of Bluetooth headsets and controllers for a cable-free gameplay experience. Lastly, the Legends Core also includes an ethernet port so you can enjoy a lag-free gameplay experience, especially when streaming.
The 4.20 x 1-inch, 0.24 lb Legends Core is already available for purchase on AtGames’ website, and will cost around $59.99. This cost doesn’t include shipping.
