A spiritual sequel to Midway’s NBA Jam, fans of both that game and basketball will find plenty to enjoy with NBA Superstars. Play Mechanix includes some people who worked at Midway during the NBA Jam development era, ensuring that the same kind of vision that made NBA Jam such a hit is translated into this new game.

At its heart, NBA Superstars is a basketball video game, tailored to feature fast-paced matches, over-the-top action, and tons of multiplayer fun. Players can login using a player account, or just play as a guest, then pick from the current roster of NBA teams and players. 30 teams are represented, with 120 real NBA players! Each player also has certain stats which affect their in-game performance. Users can also select their difficulty, to best match their skill level. During each match, players are entertained by ‘live’ commentary from voice over artist Tim Kitzrow – the same voice of NBA Jam, who came up with “BOOMSHAKALAKA!” and “HE’S ON FIRE.”

The cabinet for NBA Superstars also stands out from the competition. Using a similar design to Minecraft Dungeons Arcade, this comes with a larger 75″ 4K display, a new marquee featuring flashing camera lights, a new microLED sub-header (for showing current selected teams, game score & timer); four player stations with joystick/button controls; and LED backlit art on the control panel.
