Back in 2019, Forever Entertainment acquired a license from Sega to remake the hugely popular light shooter arcade game series, The House of the Dead. At the time, we only had the headline to go off of, with little news about said remake until now. To our surprise, Forever Entertainment recently announced that they had entered into a distribution agreement with Microids. However, instead of spelling new hope for the development of these remakes, this agreement covers only the classic versions of the timeless franchises, which means that we might be seeing them arrive on different platforms very soon.
Originally, the remake project included the first two games of the franchise, House of the Dead and its 1998 sequel. However, information has remained very sparse on these remakes, including which platforms these classic titles are coming to in this new distribution agreement. That aside from HotD, we now know Microids is also handling the distribution of Panzer Dragoon, a highly popular rail shooter and RPG originally released in 1995 for the Sega Saturn.
All of these titles are some of the most popular in their respective genres, and we’re sure that most fans will be happy to acquire them for modern consoles when they arrive. And while this might not be the news everyone might like to receive, considering that the jury’s still out on the status of the House of the Dead remake, it gives us awesome alternatives to bide our time, whenever they actually land in stores and become available for purchase, that is.
As we said, it’s still not clear the consoles or platforms in which House of the Dead and Panzer Dragoon will be available. However, after the announcement of the project, Microids CEO Stéphane Longeard claimed, “Microids is incredibly grateful to work on these mythical IPs and we’re glad Forever Entertainment entrusts our teams to deliver the best possible products. This new partnership consolidates our growth strategy revolving around video game distribution worldwide”.
In response, Zbigniew Dębicki, CEO of Forever Entertainment stated that, “We are delighted to collaborate with Microids and we are confident their expertise will be incredibly beneficial for the titles. Players from all around the world have been waiting for the comeback of Panzer Dragoon and The House of The Dead. It’s hand in hand with Microids that we’ll make this wish come true and we are super excited about inviting players back to these universes very soon!”
While these statements don’t really address the current state of the HotD remakes, it gives us hopes for acquiring the copies of the classic games, alongside with Panzer Dragoon, on modern consoles, or maybe even on PC, with all the perks and benefits of enjoying them on these updated systems.
Hey, dreaming’s free, right?
