The Enter the Gungeon franchise has had an interesting evolution ever since the release of the original Enter the Gungeon back in 2016. Originally, this game was a roguelike twin stick shooter with procedurally generated levels and loot, where the objective was to go through several levels within a massive dungeon. Players collect a wide variety of unique and fun guns, fighting the bosses at the end of each segment. Of course, this was easier said than done as not only are the bosses and enemies quite challenging, but due to the randomized design of the game, no two runs are ever alike.
Gungeon saw great success on all the platforms it was released, including PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It saw a small spinoff called “Exit the Gungeon”, and in 2020 another spin-off was announced which is this game above of Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead. Instead of it following the style of the first game in being a top-down roguelike shooter, it would now transition into a full-blown light gun game set in the Gungeon universe.
However, while House of the Gundead was initially announced way back in 2020 (it certainly feels like a lifetime ago, huh?), it was delayed due to obvious reasons. Luckily, the game has resurfaced today in recent news as Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead is actually now taking orders and shipping within 90 days from the date the order is placed.
The end product looks very much like the models when it was first announced years ago, consisting of a regular arcade cabinet with unique and amazing side and marquee art, obviously based on the Gungeon franchise. The game itself uses a 43” LED screen that displays the game in glorious 4K, along with a 2.1 sound setup to deliver booming lows and immersive highs so that the players can feel every single shot that comes out of their guns. And speaking of guns, the cabinet comes with two guns that offer different types of haptic feedback, each of which is unique to the game’s 40+ weapon variety. As such, not only do each of the guns play differently from each other, but they also feel different to shoot.
One of the best parts about Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead, aside from the game itself (especially if you’re a fan of on-rails light gun games), is the price itself, releasing at a very affordable $5,999 price tag. Well, relatively affordable, at least compared to other titles in the industry. This price tag puts it in the same range as most full-sized arcade cabinets, and interested parties can now place their orders via the House of the Gundead website, in which they state that new orders are being fulfilled within 90 days from ordering. This delay is probably due to the large volume of cabinets on backorder, as they have stated that the supply will initially be very limited.
