Many of us who were born in the ‘90s or ‘80s probably played on an arcade cabinet at some point in their lives—some of us more than others. And while these machines are a great source of entertainment, competition, and camaraderie for those who gamed the afternoons away at the local arcade, it’s undeniable that there was an age requirement for most of these machines, despite the games themselves being quite tame and kid-friendly—after all, you DID need to meet a certain height requirement to actually reach the controls and view the screen.
While there were a couple of companies back then who created kid-sized cabinets, such as Moppet Games, such things were the exception rather than the norm. However, the newest arcade cabinets from Arcade1Up are designed for the youngest gamers of the house, with a size to match their tiny frames.
The newest collection to feature in the company’s catalog is named “Arcade1Up Jr.” and is meant to offer a line of arcade cabinets adequate for the youngest members of the family. In this sense, the pint-sized cabinets are 3 feet tall, with an 8-inch screen, and feature large buttons and controls to make it easier for kids to use, which makes them ideal for kids aged four to eight. Furthermore, each machine comes with their own matching stool so the user can sit down and play if they want. These titles also come with some software additions that allow the users to tweak certain aspects of the gameplay, such as slowing down the action on the fly, granting infinite lives, and activating other bonuses to simplify the games as kids learn.
As you can probably surmise from the title of this article, the Arcade1Up Jr. line of machines will first feature two collections revolving around the popular PAW Patrol and Pac-Man franchises as its first two entries. The first collection consists of a cabinet with PAW Patrol: Off Duty, PAW Patrol Pups on a Roll, and Chase is in the Race! Meanwhile the latter collection includes Pac-Man, Galaga, and Dig Dug, which are all perfect titles for an in-training and budding gamer. The Arcade1Up Jr. line of cabinets is already present in the company’s website. However, preorders will begin on October 15th for the Arcade1Up Jr. PAC-MAN™ machine, and November 15th for the Arcade1Up Jr. PAW Patrol™ cabinet.
