Earlier last week, Arcade1Up revealed yet another new arcade cabinet in their catalog, this time in the form of the “Split Class of ‘81” cabinet. This mimics the commercial stand-up arcade machine that was released in 2006 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of both Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man, respectively.
Now, these titles don’t really need any introduction; they merely spawned their own massive communities and were basically pioneers in their respective genres, receiving worldwide critical acclaim for their awesome gameplay. In this sense, it was only a matter of time until they were picked up by Arcade1Up in their unending crusade to bring us retro arcade cabinets at relatively affordable prices.
The “Split Class of ‘81” arcade cabinet, as its name implies, features both iconic games, but Arcade1up is taking things a step further by including 10 more Namco titles to round out its offering. In total, there are 12 games in this cabinet, including:
- Galaga
- Ms. Pac-Man
- Galaga ‘88
- Galaxian
- Dig Dug
- Dig Dug II
- Mappy
- Rally-X
- Rolling Thunder
- Rompers
- Tower of Druaga
- King and Balloon
Aside from its varied game catalog, this product is also jam-packed with awesome features to improve the player’s experience. Starting with its presentation, the cabinet features a combination of awesome art, with Ms. Pac-Man on the left panel, and Galaga on the right. Meanwhile, the front panels are split down the middle by a unique design featuring a blend of both games. The riser, which is included with the purchase of the cabinet, also features a unique design that meshes perfectly with the cabinet once installed.
While the games themselves are pretty straightforward and offer countless hours of fun, the cabinet itself also offers WiFi capabilities for players to post their high scores on online leaderboards, which for many is the point of playing and getting good at their favorite arcade games. This home version, however, gives you all the fun of practicing and setting high scores, without all the quarter-gobbling expenses. And with 12 games to practice and get good at, it’d take quite a lot of quarters if you did it the old fashioned way.
The Split Class of ‘81 arcade cabinet is now available for purchase on Arcade1Up’s website, for only $599.99, which is a veritable steal as far as arcade cabinets go. Feel free to check out their page for more info on the product, as well as to find out the retailers in which you can also purchase it, in case you want to go and pick one up personally.
