It seems that around half of our recent articles in this blog have been revolving around the stuff Arcade1Up gets up to. But can you seriously blame us, when this group of wonderful people is wholly committed to bringing some of the best retro games of our time back into the public eye? When it’s not Street Fighter II, it’s Outrun, or Galaga, or Ms. Pac-Man, or any of the other tens of retro games in their catalog. They have all been remanufactured into replicas of their original form, designed exclusively for use at home, and their collection only gets bigger as time passes.
This time around, Arcade1Up recently revealed new details about their latest project, a four-player arcade cabinet with none other than X-Men, the original Konami arcade game from 1992. Like with many superhero-themed games of the time, X-Men is a beat-em-up game where players could choose from a roster of six iconic characters from the popular show; Cyclops, Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler. And just as in similar games of the time, the plot was very basic and simply an excuse to get your characters to kick supervillain butt. Namely, Professor X has been kidnapped by Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and now it’s your job to get him back.
The gameplay is very ‘90s, so to speak, consisting of simply walking through side-scrolling levels and laying the smackdown on anyone foolish enough to stand in your way. There are a total of six levels, each culminating in an intense boss battle, and with the last one taking place in “Asteroid M,” Magneto’s secret base. On the other hand, each playable character can perform a couple of common moves like jumping, attacking, and they each have unique Mutant Powers, which consist of powerful special abilities that, while doing considerable damage to the enemy, also drains the user’s HP in the process.
When it comes to beat-em-up goodness, you really can’t get any more classic than with X-Men, which makes Arcade1Up’s latest endeavor great for fans of the genre. And if you want to get your hands on an affordable cabinet of this awesome game, then you can do so right now as pre-orders are already open on their official website.

As an added bonus, this arcade cabinet also comes two other Marvel games installed: Captain America and the Avengers, and The Avengers in Galactic Storm. Though they’re not nearly as heavily-advertised as X-Men, this is still quite an awesome bonus to have, and will give owners of the cabinet quite a bit of variety in their gaming sessions.
Despite having controls for up to four players, this cabinet comes with Live WiFi, which means that owners of this cabinet can connect via the internet and participate in co-op sessions remotely. Friends can’t come over due to the ongoing restrictions? Don’t sweat it; just hook up via the internet and pummel your enemies to your hearts’ content.
One of the best aspects of Arcade1Up’s X-Men cabinet is that, similar to most of their other products, it comes at a very affordable price, with an MSRP of just $700 (or CAD $829.95). As long as you have enough space in your house to accommodate this machine, acquiring one for yourself won’t set you back considerably.
While the Arcade1Up X-Men cabinet is already available for pre-order from certain retailers like Target, Walmart, and The Brick, orders are estimated to start shipping by mid-October. Nevertheless, if you’re interested, we suggest pre-ordering ASAP, as these cabinets tend to fly off shelves in a matter of days.
