Alan-1 is back in the spotlight, and for good reason. Known for reviving arcade legends and crafting high-quality arcade hardware, the Utah-based company just made two major moves that are worth talking about. First, they’ve introduced a brand-new analog joystick designed with both reliability and precision in mind. Second, they brought updated builds of their Atari Recharged games to the Midwest Gaming Classic 2025, giving players a closer look at what’s coming next.
A New Stick for Modern Classics
Alan-1 originally built its name on recreating arcade parts, especially for classic Atari machines. Their latest release, a contactless analog joystick, taps back into those roots—but with a high-tech twist.
What makes it different? It’s built using Hall Effect technology, which means it doesn’t rely on physical contacts that can wear out over time. These are the same types of sticks found in high-end console controllers and even the old-school Sega Dreamcast. That alone puts it in a different league compared to standard arcade parts.
Even better, the joystick can shift between different modes. You’ve got 4-way, 8-way, 49-way, and full 360-degree options. It’s flexible enough to handle just about any control scheme, whether you’re playing a retro platformer or a fast-paced shooter. Plus, it works with MAME setups, making it a great option for custom arcade builds.
No price yet, but knowing Alan-1, expect something built to last.
Alan-1 Hits the Road with Atari Again
If you’ve been following along, you might remember when we covered Asteroids Recharged last December. That game helped put Alan-1 on the map for a new generation of arcade fans. With its slick cabinet designs and features like mobile score notifications and wind effects triggered by in-game actions, it was a big leap forward for retro revivals.

Now, Alan-1 is back at it with not just one, but two Atari titles that were showcased at the Midwest Gaming Classic 2025 event—Asteroids Recharged made a return, and this time it was joined by a more complete build of Missile Command Recharged.
According to Alan-1, the latest version of Missile Command Recharged is a much more polished experience than the one shown at Amusement Expo. It includes improved visuals, new gameplay elements, and better overall pacing. Some features, like the anticipated “Big Red Button,” might still be in development, but what’s there already shows serious progress.
A Sign of What’s Next
Alan-1 continues to prove that there’s still a huge appetite for retro games—especially when they’re updated with today’s tech. Their analog joystick shows they care about what’s under the hood, not just what’s on the screen. And their continued partnership with Atari means we’re likely to see even more Recharged games make the jump from digital to physical arcade cabinets.
Whether you’re an arcade operator or just a fan of classic games, Alan-1 is a name to keep watching. And with titles like Missile Command Recharged shaping up to follow in Asteroids Recharged’s footsteps, the future of retro gaming is looking solid.
Stay tuned—we’ll be keeping tabs on what Alan-1 does next, which includes their new Soda Slam! Game that you can order now.
