WHEN XTREME ACTION PARK COMPLETED a recent major expansion, it included a somewhat surprising addition: a 12,000-square-foot roller skating rink as a signature attraction alongside its go-kart track, bowling, trampoline park, ropes course, escape room, and 150-game arcade.
“There hasn’t been a new rink built in the area in the past 20 years—in fact, several have closed down,” says David Goldfarb, managing partner of the family entertainment center (FEC) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
But when he opened the rink at the tail end of 2016, Goldfarb did not view roller skating as past its prime. Rather, he saw an opportunity to modernize a well-established attraction that has entertained an untold number of guests for decades. Here are five takeaways from the experience.
